Racial and Ethnic Diversity

We are all equal and diversity is a good thing. As of the 2020 national census, Maine had the lowest racial and ethnic diversity of all fifty states. As our world and our country are becoming more diverse, so is Maine. Diversity makes us a better state and we welcome it. As Maine grows more racially and ethnically diverse, our state government must change and grow to accommodate and support Mainers of all colors and ethnicities. As governor, I will lead by example by appointing at least one person of color and/or an ethnic minority to my cabinet. Our state will not tolerate racial or ethnic discrimination of any kind and we will welcome and encourage increased diversity.
